NCQLP Announces Examination Results – 2010 Examination
Bernard J. Erickson, LC, Facility Solutions Group, Inc. (FSGI), NCQLP President, is pleased to announce that 349 lighting practitioners sat for the 2010 Examination. With a pass rate of 85%, the number of Lighting Certified individuals has been increased by 247.
Those who became LCs in 2010 brought the total number of LCs to over 2250, including 4 Intern LCs who were successful candidates. There are now a total of 36 Intern LCs. Since the Lighting Certification Intern Program began in 2000, 50 Intern LCs have become full LCs.
Intern LCs
This year, 4 students sat for the Examination as participants in the NCQLP Intern LC Program. Students from an accredited college offering a minimum of 12 credit hours in lighting or lighting related courses within one year of graduation can apply to take the LC Examination as an Intern Student. One (1) student from the University of Nebraska, one (1) student at Parsons School of Design (New York), one (1) student from Pennsylvania State, and one (1) from the University of Wisconsin – Madison sat for the LC Examination; all four were successful candidates and have now earned their designation as an Intern LC.
Statistics about New LCs
Of those who successfully completed the 2010 examination, 15.4% identify themselves as electrical engineers and 24.2% as lighting designers/consultants. Other candidates included 10.7% manufacturers’ representatives and 13.1% sales representatives.
Approximately 29.4% list experience levels at 6-10 years, with another 28.1% indicating that they have 11-20 years of experience.
An average of 57% of the new LCs hold bachelor degrees, while 12.3% indicate that they have earned advanced degrees.
IESNA members account for 42% of new LCs, with an average of 56% holding IESNA membership since the Examination was first offered in 1998. In 2010, 4.4% indicated that they belong to the IALD, with IALD averaging 8.5% of successful LC candidates during the 13 years in which the Examination has been offered. Of those taking the Examination, 8.7% hold the designation, Professional Engineer (PE).
The National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions is a non-profit corporation founded in 1991 to serve and protect the well-being of the public through effective and efficient lighting practice. Through a peer review process, the NCQLP establishes the experience and examination requirements for certification in the lighting industry.
